Rage Against The Machine narrowly beating Joe McElderry in UK chart race
Okay, so the latest figures are in (well, not the actual figures) on this week’s race to be the UK’s Christmas number one. And in news that will give its Facebook campaign a boost, Rage Against The Machine are AHEAD of X-Factor winner Joe McElderry based on digital sales for Sunday and Monday.
That’s according to the Official Charts Company. However, the gap is narrow: only about 10% of Rage Against The Machine’s sales separate the two, apparently.
Don’t get too excited: Joe’s CD single comes out tomorrow, for everybody’s mum and nan to buy in supermarkets. The prospects for a festive upset remain slim. And in any case, the big winner from all of this is label Sony Music Entertainment, which is responsible for both tracks.
“This is shaping up to be a very exciting battle between two different records which have captured the nation’s imagination,” says the OCC’s Martin Talbot. “But, although Rage Against The Machine have started off in front, according to our initial sales estimates, there is no doubt that this tussle is far from over.”

You see, this makes the Christmas number 1 exciting again, instead of just a dead cert.

Either way Cowell’s going to make some money. I want Rage to be Xmas number 1 ‘The Climb’ is such a weak song and it looks like RATM are bookies favorite to win check it out here http://bit.ly/5s0RD5 plus there’s a list of sites selling ‘Killing In The Name Of’ and prices, I think Amazon is the cheapest though.

Does anybody think the Rage Against The Machine (RATM) campaign against the X Factor Xmas single release is actually beneficial, rather than detrimental, to the X Factor cause? The RATM protest will increase sales of the X Factor single, draw more attention and advertising to the show, and, worst of all, it actually justifies the X Factor’s existence. By opposing the X Factor Xmas single the RATM campaign is actually giving meaning to something that is, and should have remained, meaningless. Meaningless shite like the X Factor should be left to the mindless, conformist, mainstream majority and ignored by enlightened, free thinking individuals who like real music. As Richard Morgan has said, “Society is, always has been and always will be a structure for the exploitation and oppression of the majority through systems of political force dictated by an élite, enforced by thugs, uniformed or not, and upheld by a willful ignorance and stupidity on the part of the very majority whom the system oppresses”. Let the stupid majority enjoy their plastic, manufactured, mass produced music. Let them have 2.2 children, watch soap opera and go to Spain for a holiday. The best thing the intelligent minority can do is concentrate on the real, the profound and the meaningful. If you like the RATM song, then buy it. If you are just buying it to oppose the X Factor you are wasting your time and money. Yeah, I know, the money goes to charity. But you can donate to charity, indeed a charity of your own choice, without buying the RATM single. Don’t become or start behaving like a herd animal; that is what the stupid majority are. Don’t let good intentions turn you in to a sheep because there is enough sheep shit around already!
