FundTunes offers charitable music downloads
FundTunes is a new Canadian website that aims to let digital music buyers also donate to a range of local charities.
The site sells ‘E-Music Gift Cards’ (we sense eMusic may have something to say about this) for five or ten songs, with buyers invited to choose a charity at the point of purchase.
Universal Music Canada is already on board, with its manager of special markets & partnership marketing Lisa Sharkey saying the store “creates warm fuzzies for everyone”.
The store is working with media partners to promote itself, while signing up a host of Canadian charities. It’s certainly an inventive idea, although one that could be added to existing larger download stores fairly quickly, removing FundTunes’ USP.

“What a great idea, is right. Makes you wonder though, if Universal Music
.
can do what Fundtunes can do…why the partnership? I have a feeling it
comes down to facilitation, image and manpower. After all Universal music is
still selling music, plus Fundtunes is making them look good…in a warm
fuzzy kind of way
I can see Fundtunes being the facilitator for all ‘existing larger download
stores’ aka Music Giants. I look forward to seeing Funtunes grow and get the
recognition they deserve!”

I’m a teacher at a school and I believe that it’s about time that the fund raising services began to catch up with the times. No more food allergies, no inventories of products that we can’t get rid of and most importantly no cash exchange and no door to door sales that can put our young in danger. Finally a service that offers a fund raising opportunity with a cool product and all the fund raising initiatives can be done from the comfort and safety of home. I can’t see any of the large E Music stores wanting to give up half of their net profit to a school group or an amateur team or charity. It seems to me that FundTunes is more than just a music store. From my stand point as a teacher, it’s a fund raising service and from my perspective as a customer, it’s a great way to legally BUY my digital music or send a Music Gift Card while being able to donate to the cause of my choosing. I think FundTunes is a great concept and it offers a fantastic service and I hope to see them grow with the times.
