“There’s always been a meme element to our music”

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Start the week with some Web 2.0 jargon courtesy of blog Digipendent, which has a piece on how to make your band successful online.

“Your band must invade the Perception Econonomy. Your Band must no longer be a band. Your band must be a meme. A Meme Which Generates subMemes. These memes must be compelling, intriguing, and interesting enough for people to `follow’ or at least think that you are `worth following’.”

Oh, and: “You are an aesthetic. You are the news that bros every where need to read about. You need to picture a world where you have at least 20K twitter followers who are eager to follow your lifestream on a meme-to-meme basis.”

Consider yourself told.

Britney Spears wants a Web 2.0 media manager

Monday, January 12th, 2009

If you’re Web 2.0 savvy and looking for a new job, you might want to check out this vacancy for a 2.0 Media Manager at Brandcasting Unlimited, responsible for Britney Spears’ online identity and digital properties.

That means YouTube, Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, posting exclusive content, running contests, launching email marketing campaigns, and engaging with fans. It’s an interesting insight into the skills required to manage the identity of major artists online nowadays.

And probably just a co-incidence that the post is vacant the week after someone hacked into Britney’s Twitter account and posted that her vagina was “about 4 feet wide with razor sharp teeth”. Either that, or someone’s been sacked like a hot potato.
