And the latest hot digital music startup is… Qtrax. Wait, what?

“We are aiming for two paradigm shifts,” says the CEO of a new digital music service that’s due to launch in 2015. Said shifts being giving consumers music for free so they don’t have to pirate it, and ensuring that artists make money from the process.

You’d be forgiven for a twinge (at least) of scepticism at the idea, not least because the whole free music / artist compensation thing has been done by Spotify, Deezer and a range of other ad-supported digital music services in recent years.

You’d be forgiven for a massive dose of scepticism, though, when you hear who’s hoping to find new paradigm shifts around this model: Allan Klepfisz, and his company Qtrax. Yup: that Qtrax.
