Sales of single track downloads in the UK increased by 47.7% in 2007, from 52.5m in 2006 to 77.6m. During the last week of December 2007 nearly 3m tracks were sold, the highest ever recorded for any weekly period. The recording industry failed to counter a drop in CD sales: about 95% of albums are still sold as CDs rather than digital files, but the total CD market declined by about 10% in 2007.
