The market for smart phones will grow from 10% of the mobile handset market in 2007 to 31% by 2013. Manufacturers are adding new features in order to remain competitive with the Apple iPhone and that smart operating systems running on lower performance processors and supported by single-chip mid-range devices will provide more data revenues. There were 500m worldwide shipments of music mobile phones in 2007, almost 300m more than shipments of personal media players, and predicting that by 2011 more than 50% of all mobile phones will feature music codec functionalitysuch as MP3 or AAC.
