Changes are afoot at Starbucks in relation to its Hear Music label. The coffee chain is stepping back from the day-to-day operations of the label, handing them over to partner Concord Music Group (it’s a 50-50 joint venture). It’s not the end of Starbucks’ involvement in music, but the company appears to be focusing more on digital promotions, such as its high-profile involvement with Apple, giving away iTunes tracks. There’s already speculation that this strategic shift is due to less-than-stellar sales of albums released through Hear Music.
