It’s taken a while, but Ticketmaster is finally running a trial of paperless gig tickets, kicking off with Tom Waits’ upcoming ‘Glitter and Doom’ tour in the US. You buy tickets on the phone or online, and then present the credit card used for the purchase when you get to the venue, as well as your ID. The aim is to reduce ticket touting and online resales, although it remains to be seen whether not having to send out physical tickets will mean a drop in Ticketmaster’s often-criticised booking fees
