So, in London a DJ and music critic has been arrested on suspicion of theft and money-laundering, after allegedly selling 150 pre-release albums on eBay including Kelly Rowland, Foals and Grand National. However, in Los Angeles, a judge has rejected Universal Music Group’s lawsuit against someone selling promo CDs on eBay, ruling that when sent out to journalists and DJs, they become the rightful owners, and are thus entitled to resell them. However, the two cases aren’t the same – the crucial element in the London arrest appears to be that the promos were being sold pre-release.
