We’ve written about Music 2.0 site Social.fm a fair bit in this bulletin in the past – it’s the company formerly known as Mercora, before it rebranded in September last year. Anyway, it’s closed, with a stark message on the company’s homepage giving users the news, before the site went offline late last week. The company offered a combination of social networking, music discovery and personalised streaming music radio, but besides being outmuscled by Pandora and Last.fm, it’s likely Social.fm struggled with new royalty rates for online webcasting, which were introduced last year.
