News site Techdirt had an interesting story this weekend, about Warner Music Group’s plans for a voluntary blanket licensing scheme for access to online music.Pitched at universities, it involves paying a set fee per student that goes into a pot of revenue to be distributed to record labels and music publishers (and, in theory, artists). The article includes a presentation on the plan that’s apparently being given to US colleges – we’ve embedded it above. However, an article today on another site quotes WMG as saying the presentation isn’t theirs – instead, it’s the work of someone else based on conversations with WMG execs. So it is sort of theirs, just not directly.
