European streaming music service Spotify may have been recently forced to remove some tracks due to pesky licensing restrictions, but the company has also been adding new tracks, thanks to a new deal with digital distributor CD Baby. The deal covers more than one million songs from independent artists, bolstering the Spotify catalogue – which already includes tracks from UMG, Sony, EMI, WMG, Merlin and The Orchard. “CD Baby gives us access to the world’s most immersive independent music catalogue and brings us even closer to our dream of gathering all the world’s music in one place,” says Spotify CEO Daniel Ek.Most immersive? Wonder what Merlin and The Orchard will say about that. Anyway, Spotify says it’ll reveal which artists are being added to its service through the new deal in the coming weeks, as it brings them on-stream.
