Industry blog Hypebot is claiming that last week’s layoffs at the RIAA were much more severe than the 30 layoffs that were reported. “It is about 90-100+ people across the US and global offices – anti-piracy, coordinated IFPI/BPI etc – trust me, it’s a bloodbath,” the blog’s source says. “Hands, Morris are squeezing the **** out of these guys after the ISP failure and a major budget cut. RIAA as you know it is probably history by Tuesday of next week…” It goes on to claim that there’ll be a new body merging the IFPI, BPI and RIAA that may be announced this week. We’ll have to wait and see about that one.
