Sony’s wide-ranging corporate reorganisation has thrown up another surprise – chairman and CEO Howard Stringer is now taking on the role of president too, with current Sony president Ryoji Chubachi stepping back to vice chairman from 1 April. The company’s consumer electronics arm is also restructuring into two groups. The Networked Products & Services Group will handle gaming and PC (i.e. PlayStation/PSP and Vaios), while the Consumer Products Group will handle TV, digital cameras and camcorders (i.e. everything else). The changes consolidate power in Stringer’s hands, with the industry eager to see if he can turn Sony’s fortunes around following recent losses.
