Island Records has launched a new website celebrating its 50th birthday, focusing on 50 classic albums from its back catalogue. It has audio clips, videos, contemporary press reviews, and a Wiki-style interface for users to add their own comments and memories around the albums. The label says it’ll shortly launch a related store to sell gig tickets, merchandise, an Island 50 book and new physical and digital versions of the albums. “Rather than creating a flat marketing brochure, we wanted to develop a community encouraging music lovers to take an active part in celebrating our 50th birthday,” says the label’s head of digital Glenn Cooper.
