
Wondering why all the Google ads you see are for music, or games, or rubber catsuits? That’s because Google has announced plans to target its internet ads according to the surfing habits of individual users. The websites you visit and YouTube videos you watch will be used to create a profile which will then define which ads you see. “The Holy Grail for advertisers is getting more relevant ads. This is an opportunity for advertisers to reach a better audience,” says Google’s UK country manager Mark Howe. However, privacy campaigners aren’t happy, even though Google says it won’t track information relating to politics, religion, health, sexual orientation, certain financial transactions and adult content.
