Last night’s inaugural meeting of the UK-based Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) included a unanimous vote among members against the idea of criminalising file-sharing or cutting off the internet access of fans. The vote came as part of a debate on artists’ response to the interim Digital Britain report, which will set out measures to combat online music piracy. Although it’s tempting to suggest that this represents a split between the opinions of artists and their labels, in truth the recent noises coming out of UK industry bodies like UK Music has also been against the idea of criminalising individual file-sharers.
