The average user of a G1 Android handset has already downloaded more than 40 applications from the Android Market store, according to Cole Brodman, CTO of T-Mobile USA, which sells the handset. One third of the apps being downloaded are now paid apps, since the facility was introduced earlier this month. And there are now more than 2,300 apps available on Android Market, which represents decent growth even if it pales next to the 25,000 apps on Apple’s App Store. However, Brodman says that Android Market – which is run by Google rather than T-Mobile – needs better search tools to help people find apps that are most relevant to them.
