The number of mobile phone subscribers in Russia reached 190m in February 2009, a rise of 23.2m compared with February 2008. Mobile penetration increased to 131%, a rise of 0.6% from January 2009 and 16% in year-on-year terms, with as many as 188 SIM cards in use per 100 inhabitants in Moscow. According to the figures subscriptions in the Ukraine decreased to 55.6m in February 2009, a drop of 0.2m from January 2009, but up by 0.4m from February 2008. The figures reveal that there was a fall in penetration in the Ukraine to 120.5% in February 2009, 0.4% down on January 2009, but up by 1.4% from February 2008.
