Mozilla has released the first beta version of Fennec, its mobile browser (essentially it’s the mobile version of Firefox). And while it promises several music-friendly features, including Flash and the ability to handle streaming media, PC World reports that this version leaves a lot to be desired. Although its tabbed browsing and add-ons are just like the desktop version, the site reports that trying to watch video on sites like YouTube was extremely problematic. But hey, it’s in beta, right? Fennec is part of a trend – see also Skyfire and Bolt – for mobile browsers that have more powerful media-playing capabilities. Which could be important for music startups as an alternative to releasing downloadable apps.
