Yes, you read that right. MTV is ramping up its efforts in music again, although in a way that suits the broadcast network’s modern-day focus on reality shows and celebrities. MTV Networks has a new unit called Creative Music Integration, led by Joe Cuello. His job is to ensure that MTV and VH1’s stable of shows make more of their soundtracks. They’ve already been working on some projects – for example a band called Little Jackie was featured in VH1 show New York Goes To Hollywood, with song placements, a free MP3 and ringtone offer, and an appearance in the show itself. Apparently digital sales of their single rose 94% following their appearance, while album sales doubled.
