US ISP AT&T has moved to clarify its policy over sending warning letters out to customers caught illegally file-sharing. “We are not issuing `takedown notices’, nor are we participating in a `three-strikes’ plan,” executive director Michael Balmoris tells Digital Music News. “We are trialing an effort that’s about customer education and deterrence… we are not suspending or terminating our customers’ service.” The ISP says that most customers stop file-sharing when sent such a letter, which it says justifies its approach – even if it’s a bit more softly-softly than the RIAA would like.
