As VP of engineering for Google’s mobile and developer products, Vic Gundotra knows a thing or two about the mobile web. Now he’s written a column for TechCrunch’s IT site saying that the mobile industry needs to increase its adoption of flat-rate data plans, slick mobile web browsers, and faster access to the web and search from their handsets. He backs it up with some pretty charts and graphs, too. “As a community of operators, device manufacturers and software providers, we continue to get in their way,” he says, of users. “We make it too costly, too unfamiliar, and too difficult to do anything beyond voice calls.”
