Who needs A&R people when you have your own community of music fans, eh? That appears to be part of the thinking behind Your Soundcheck, a new element to the D2C EMI.com website. Invitations went out on Friday to registered users offering free access to pre-release content, and the chance to tell EMI what they “think about new music, new bands and advise us on our music-making decisions”.Hypebot reports that the registration survey asks fans’ opinions on alternative names for EMI.com, as well as their music discovery and purchase habits. However, get to the section that asks whether you’re a journalist, market researcher or work in the music industry, and answering yes tells you “we are unable to proceed with your registration”. Ah well, at least we’re honest (or too slow-witted to lie).
