The number of people buying digital music in the UK has nearly doubled from 5.1% of the population in 2007 to 9.5% in 2008. The industry body reports that 110m singles were downloaded in 2008, up 42% on 2007, while digital album sales rose 65% to 10m. The BPI go on to reveal the total music retail industry value was down 8% last year, with total album sales falling 3.2%.
