A sad story this: hip hop artist Dolla was shot dead earlier this week in Los Angeles, just hours after launching a Twitter feed. However, as news of his death spread, fans started using Twitter to pay their respects, signing up to follow the account and sending messages – a similar thing is happening on his MySpace page. Dolla now has more than 1,500 followers on Twitter, and thousands of messages from people paying their respects.
