Apple has doubled its share of the smartphone market from 5.3% to 10.8% between Q1 2008 and Q1 this year. Nokia is still top dog with 41.2% of the smartphone market, followed by Research In Motion”s 19.9%. Overall, Gartner says global smartphone sales were up 12.7% year-on-year to 36.4 million in Q1, although this co-incided with a 9.4% drop in sales of less advanced handsets. That said, smartphones were just 13.5% of all mobile sales in the quarter, up from 11% in Q1 2008.
