We reported last week on the hotly-tipped Palm Pre smartphone, which can sync with iTunes. Now it’s emerged how it works: it pretends to be an iPod. Or, at least, it identifies itself to iTunes as an iPod. However, a hacker far more knowledgable about these things than us has pointed out that the Pre’s “root USB node” still identifies itself as a Pre, meaning Apple could shut the device out in a future iTunes update if it wanted.
