Jon Rubinstein has been confirmed as the new CEO at handset firm Palm, taking over from Ed Colligan. He was already at the company as executive chairman, but he’s best known for his stint at Apple, where he headed the hardware engineering division at the time the company was developing the iPod. Rubinstein will now be in charge of capitalising on the widely-hyped launch of Palm’s Pre smartphone, with its webOS operating system. “With Palm webOS we have ten-plus years of innovation ahead of us, and the Palm Pre is already one of the year’s hottest new products,” he says.
