
iPhone advertising network Adwhirl claims that it costs $1,875 a day in advertising to get a paid iPhone app into the Top 100 chart on Apple’s App Store. However, the company has some advice for developers: launch free apps to build an audience, and use them to funnel people towards your paid versions. “Free apps… quickly gain many ”throwaway” users and offer an effective channel to advertise the apps that were important to us”.
