We reported earlier this week on Pandora’s new stipulation that music has to be available to buy as a physical CD from Amazon before it can get onto Pandora’s music service. Artists have been complaining, so founder Tim Westergren has penned a reply for Hypebot. “There are really three principal reasons – user experience, improving the meta data, and managing submissions,” he writes, pointing out that users complain when they can’t see functioning buy links when playing music. He’s keen to stress that Pandora isn’t squeezing out unsigned and independent artists. “70% of the 75,000 artists in our collection are not on a major label. All we’re asking of artists is to make great music, and have it available for easy purchase for Pandora’s audience.”
