
Beck has announced plans for a new section of his website called Record Club, which will involve roping in celebrity mates to record cover versions of classic albums in a single day, and then releasing the tracks for free on his and his fellow musicians’ websites. He’s starting with The Velvet Underground and Nico, with the likes of Devendra Banhart, MGMT, Jamie Lidell and Nigel Godrich expected to take part in future versions. Let’s hope he’s planning to stump up for the publishing royalties – Lou Reed is grumpy enough without not getting paid for this…
