The BBC’s online Glastonbury service, achieved record numbers for its interactive coverage. The service which offered more than 60 acts playing the main stages, received 7.2 million video requests, Lady Gaga’s performance led the way with 1.3 million requests; then Lily Allen with 762,000 requests followed by Blur with 538,000 requests. The online total is a four-fold increase on 2008, where the top artist was headliner Jay Z, with 119,000 requests. Record audiences used the red button to see coverage of the festival, with more than 6.1 million watching on digital TV, making it the most popular music event shown on the BBC’s red button. Over the Glastonbury weekend of June, 16.33 million viewers tuned into television coverage of the event on BBC Two, Three and Four.
