Disney has announced plans to bundle microSD cards with its DVD movies in Japan. That means buyers will get a copy of the movie on each for the combined price of 4,935 Yen (around $52). As Ars Technica points out, this is more expensive than the DVD-only version, and effectively means Disney is charging people for the ability to watch their purchases on their mobiles. How long till someone tries this ”buy the CD, get the microSD not for free” trick with a music album?
