Looking to boost its prepaid cell phone business, wireless carrier Sprint Nextel, will acquire Virgin Mobile USA in a deal valued at $483 million. Sprint already owns a 13.1% stake in the company. Sprint intends to merge the operations of the Virgin Mobile brand with its Boost Mobile business in order to create a leader in prepaid wireless, when the deal closes later this year or in early 2010.
