Following on from today’s top story about Guy Hands moving Terra Firma to Guernsey, it has emerged that many of the main digital companies are based in Luxembourg, renowned for its `tax haven’ status. Amazon, iTunes, Digital River, MCI, Spotify, Microsoft, Skype and AOL all have bases there. The territory is already a strong financial centre, but with many of Europe’s digital TV services, and worldwide digital music firms all moving in, it is starting to attract greater scrutiny. The country was added to the G20 `grey list’ of problem tax havens at the last summit in London earlier this year, causing prime minister Jean-Claude Juncker to hit out at his European neighbours, saying they had broken a promise they had earlier given in Brussels.
