Apple has filed a patent called Auto Messaging to Currently Connected Caller, which could allow iPhone users to swap files while chatting on a voice call. It specifically mentions music as one of the file formats that will be supported, along with photos, documents and weblinks. Quite how this would work with copyrighted music is anyone’s guess – as indeed is the question of whether it will actually make it into iPhones in the future. A similar patent was revealed in June (see Bulletin: 5-Jun-09).
