Dr Kai-Fu Lee, president of Google China, has announced that he will leave the company later this month. Although he will apparently be launching his own Beijing-based startup, the news is being seen in most media reports as a sign that Google’s big push into China isn’t quite working out as planned, with local search provider Baidu still taking a dominant market share. Among the projects that Lee oversaw was Google’s free music download service, which launched in China earlier this year.
