Spotify has announced that it is selling subscriptions to its Spotify Premium service in more than 500 branches of Swedish retailers Pressbyran and 7-Eleven.People can buy one, three, six or twelve-month subscriptions over the counter, receiving a code that they then enter on the Spotify website to upgrade their account. “Having in-store purchases is the first of many new payment options we plan to roll out in the near future to make it as convenient as possible for you to subscribe to Spotify,” says the blog post announcing the news. This should help Spotify’s drive for more paying customers, although if the company is trying to appeal to shoppers who haven’t already used the service, much will depend on how it’s explained at the point of sale.
