A long, long time ago – in the days of floppy disks – the US software industry tried to fight piracy with a TV ad featuring a specially commissioned hip-hop track: “Don’t Copy That Floppy”. It was mocked at the time, and ever since.So now the Software and Information Industry has commissioned an official sequel, which is just as ridiculous. And even if it’s intentionally ridiculous this time round, with an eye to going viral on YouTube no doubt… well, it’s still a bit silly.Meanwhile, back in the music industry, the RIAA’s latest educational materials for US schoolkids appear to have invented a new word for file-sharing: “songlifting”. We sense it may not catch on.
At least the music industry isn’t making anti-piracy ads like this one
