Microsoft has made the strange decision to ship its new Zune HD devices without the necessary software to actually, well, use them. US purchasers whose devices arrived yesterday – the official launch is today – saw their excitement tempered by the fact that they will have to wait until Microsoft releases its new Zune software later today to use the devices. Even so, early reports claim the device is as attractive as promised. Microsoft sent out an email to Zune customers yesterday trailing the new software, which should reveal what direction the company plans to take the devices in.
