Vodafone UK has unveiled something called the Real-Time Top 40 – “the first-ever interactive real-time top 40 chart for music lovers” to find “the biggest artists and songs in the music industry”. Well, the biggest ones that are available on Vodafone”s music store, anyway. UPDATE: apparently tracks not available on Vodafone’s store can make it into the chart too – it’s just that they won’t have buy links. To vote, people have to tweet the name of an artist and track, while adding the hashtag #RealTimeTop40. Top of the chart at the time of writing? Patrick Swayze with She’s Like The Wind. Us Brits are sentimental types, clearly (with dreadful music taste). It’s interesting that Vodafone is doing this, of course, but the fact that people have to explicitly enter the hashtag when tweeting means it’s of limited wider use compared to something like We Are Hunted’s Twitter chart.
