Topspin has a really interesting blog post about its work with an artist called Fanfario, including a four-step plan: Don’t suck; Get others to introduce you to their audience; Make those audiences an offer they can’t refuse; Repeat. The third of those involved offering the band’s album digitally for $1, backed up with all manner of social media widgets. As a result, Topspin says Fanfario acquired “15,000 new fan relationships” – of whom 13,000 were paying – and that lots of those went on to also buy the CD/Vinyl/Special Edition versions of the album too. It’s a good case study, because it focuses on an emerging band rather than a big-name artist.
