56.1% of the web traffic to online music sites comes from women, according to web metrics firm Nielsen NetView. That means 42.5 million unique female visitors in August alone. Nielsen suggests that a third of all visitors to music sites are 35-60 year-old women, with 35-49 year-olds the largest group within that. The top two sites visited by women during August were AOL Music (11.8 million) and Yahoo Music (9.9 million). Meanwhile, 15.6% of over-18 US females say they have bought music online within the past six months – compared to 16% who said they bought it offline during that period.
