Italian internet users are to be blocked from accessing The Pirate Bay, following a ruling by the Court of Cassation. Ring a bell? Access to the site was blocked by an Italian court ruling in August last year, before being overturned on appeal. Now that verdict has itself been overturned. Enzo Mazza, president of music industry body FIMI, is unsurprisingly chuffed. “Since the previous appeal, Pirate Bay has been able to operate and go unpunished for almost a year, causing great damage to Italian music. This latest decision means that access to the site can now be blocked again, as was the case in August 2008.” As ever, expect technical workarounds within days to ensure Italian users can still reach the site despite the ban.
