As if the ad-supported music market wasn’t tough enough for startups, now it turns out there’s a company called Ultramercial which holds a US patent on the idea of distributing content for free online if a user watches an advert. What’s more, it’s just sued Hulu, YouTube and games firm WildTangent for infringing the patent. Also in the company’s sights could be Free All Music, which announced its plans to provide ad-supported downloads using this very model last week.
