Webcasts are the future! Still! Mariah Carey is the latest artist to go down that road, announcing plans to simulcast a Las Vegas gig this Saturday to mobile phones and other devices. It’s the result of a partnership between Island Def Jam Group and GDE Partners, who will charge fans $9.99 for “virtual concert tickets” to watch the gig. The webcast will stream, but while it can be paused and continued at a later time, it CAN”T be rewound or replayed once it has been watched once. This latter aspect seems a bit strange – why not let people pay for a copy they can keep?
