Google’s Android smartphone OS is gathering momentum, with the analyst claiming it will be the second largest smartphone platform behind Symbian by 2012, accounting for 14% of the market and 76 million handset sales. Its report points out that more than 40 Android handsets will ship next year alone, thanks to Google’s policy of licensing the OS to many different handset makers. The prediction shows why increasingly, music app developers are looking to launch on Android as well as iPhone.
