The UK”s Competition Commission has provisionally ruled against the proposed merger of Ticketmaster and Live Nation, claiming it could “severely inhibit” a rival’s entry into the UK market, and lead to higher ticket prices, poorer customer service and less innovation. The ruling won’t block the deal itself – which is still being scrutinised by the US Department of Justice – but the UK Commission could demand that Ticketmaster or Live Nation sell their UK division, or partner with a rival ticketing firm.
