Apple has announced that it will now allow free iPhone applications to use in-app payments. That’s a change from its previous policy of only allowing paid apps to use the feature, which can be used to sell virtual items in games, or songs for music apps. And the latter is why this could be important: an artist, label or music firm can now offer their app for free, but make money through charging for other content – or even a monthly subscription – within it.
